Outreach

Concurrent with the mission and objectives of International Watershed Studies (IWS) is the goal of dissemination of knowledge gained during its activities to local, national and international water stakeholders and decision-makers. These outreach activities include relevant presentations, publications and reports, short courses, workshops, seminars, and electronic media. As requested, IWS faculty and staff will provide technical assistance to organizations and individuals involved in water-related activities. Publications arising from IWS activities will be made readily available, including via the Internet.

As a means of integrating scientific and socioeconomic aspects of holistic water management approaches, the IWS will convene conferences and related gatherings comprised of scientists and decision-makers. A specific goal is to facilitate communication and dialogue between these two disparate groups and interests to facilitate scientifically based and informed management decisions.

Education programs include lectures, seminars and workshops on relevant water-related topics. A specific focus is identifying and analyzing the root causes and consequences of non-sustainable water resources, as well as identifying and evaluating management options for facilitating sustainable water use. Such education programs are designed to increase the understanding and awareness of community members, water-related policymakers and decision-makers, and environmentally minded students and professionals in all realms, including business, government, education and nonprofit organizations.
